中国植物志英文版（Flora of China ）的作者认为，当年只有根据1936年的一份标本发表的异形玉叶金花Mussaenda anomala ，花萼和花冠有一些变化，但也只是大叶白纸扇Mussaenda shikokiana Makino的一个变异类型，2006年已经做了归并。现在认为不存在异形玉叶金花这个种。Flora of China 原文如下：

Mussaenda anomala was described based on one specimen that appears to represent only an aberrant form of M. shikokiana with all its calyx lobes expanded and petaloid. This name was formally synonymized by Deng and Zhang (Acta Phytotax. Sin. 44: 609-611. 2006, under M. esquirolii), who reported visiting the type locality where they were unable to find a similar plant.
